Man I must have been boring in college. Except for maybe three things in the first list, I’m not sure any would have applied to me. There was the staying up all night flirting with strangers in other countries on AIM (AOL Instant Messenger, for those either too old or young to remember that). Sneaking into the football stadium at night to watch the sunrise (us band geeks were exciting people). Buying fruit juice from the dorm vending machine to mix with vodka so you could carry it around campus without getting caught. Having to stage an intervention because your roommate hadn’t gone to class in three months because she played online role-playing games all night and slept all day – only to discover that she had failed out of school the previous semester and was just continuing to live in the dorm for free because no one had told the housing department that she was no longer enrolled. Good times.

I guess that is why is lasted so long but it might also have had 100 lbs. in dead skin and dust mites too …. commence gagging ….

Never did the fast food job thing but it’s good to know about the liquor bottle by the dumpster. Explains a lot about both the service and the food.

I have to admit it was a struggle to come up with some of this stuff – not so much that my memory sucks (which it does) but mostly because I kept thinking “I don’t know if I truly believe this is ridiculous even today (OK, the toilet paper thing is pretty crazy …)

I can’t believe you guys were able to come up with lists like that! I can’t remember 1 thing about college…. let alone 10!

Honestly though, I do remember taking that fast food job to earn extra cash for the holidays, only I don’t think any of that minimum wage earning was ever spent on gifts for anyone else. Most likely it was all converted to “liquid assets.” There was a huge upside to the fast food industry, if you messed up just a few orders each night, you could score a meal that you could sneak out the back door, yet not draw enough attention to lose your job. I won’t even mention that there was usually a bottle of [insert cheap liquor of the week here] stashed out by the dumpster for enjoying on smoke breaks. Ahhh.. the good ‘ol days!
