Last night, after we put the baby down for the night, Gabe and I sat down to have dinner together. It’s not unusual for Asher, our kindergartner, to go to bed before we eat as well. Ya know how it is…the adults’ needs are the last to be taken care of.
But this time, probably because it was Sunday and we didn’t have the usual hectic schedule, the meal was ready in time for Asher to sit at the table with us.
He took this very seriously, filling our water glasses, making us place cards (seriously? IDK where he learned this because it wasn’t at home), putting the salt and the pepper on the table…
But easily the best part of the whole event was Asher spelling out all the rules for meal-time before we began to eat. In addition to the some excellent laughs, it made me realize we may say the word “don’t” a good bit more than we realize.
Just to make this easier on you, I made a little chart. Feel free to pass it along to all the adults you know who need to brush up on their table manners.
