I’ve been an outdoor concert and festival person for as long as I can remember. Back in my single days, we drove hours and even flew across the country for music festivals several times a year. Now that I’m a married mom of two, the whole family loves outdoor music events more than just about anything else we do as a family.
The geographical scope of where I go for festivals has been changed a lot by motherhood (local is the best we can do with little kids) but one thing hasn’t changed. My allergies are still the first thing I have to think about and plan for when an outdoor event is coming up.
Living in the deep South means that my allergies are at least somewhat active all the time. I mean, just check out this photo of me and my boys as we were heading off to have their photo made with Santa. See how green the monkey grass is even in December? That’s why I take my ZYRTEC® year round.
But of course, Spring is the worst. Like a lot of allergy-sufferers, the second I know an outdoor event is on the schedule, I start to get a little stressed out about an attack – which SUCKS because there’s nothing I love more than being outdoors in the Spring. So in addition to my ZYRTEC® (which I keep in my purse), I also have to put some measures in place to counteract the puffiness, the red nose and the runny eyes when we’re heading out to spend a glorious day listening to music and running into half the neighborhood.
I’ve stolen my main ALLERGY FACE® makeup cheats from makeup artist Jamie Greenberg. This is my favorite look for Spring concerts and festivals. I make sure the use waterproof mascara and eyeliner (combatting runny eyes), contour my cheekbone (to counteract puffiness) and then use a pop of pink on the cheeks and lips to brighten everything up and pull the eye away from any redness on my nose.
